Why This Exists

A Second Track, Built for the People Closest to the Hall

Trustees and Advisors see names the public nomination process may never surface. This protocol gives those names a permanent home - one that doesn't depend on any single nomination season to remember them.

1

You Recommend

Submit up to five names, spread across categories or concentrated in one. Nothing beyond your own name is required - one candidate is as welcome as five.

2

Consensus Builds

Every submission is counted against the combined Trustee and Advisor body. A name needs no champion beyond the numbers - once 10% of the body has named it, it qualifies on its own.

3

It Becomes Permanent

Names that cross the threshold join the Recommended Nominees list for good, and appear automatically, labeled as governance-recommended, at the start of every future nomination phase.

The Threshold

How a Name Becomes Permanent

10%

Trustees + Advisors
The Threshold

Once 10% of the combined Trustee and Advisor body has recommended the same name, it becomes a permanent Recommended Nominee. That's true whether it comes from one enthusiastic push or from names arriving independently over time.

The threshold is measured against the full body, not just the people who happen to submit a form. As the Advisory Board grows, the number of recommendations needed to clear 10% grows with it.

What Counts

Recommend by Category, or Leave It Open

Every recommendation can carry a category, but it doesn't have to. If a name later gets recommended under more than one, the most common category wins - the same rule used for public nominations.
2025 Hilander Hall of Fame Distinguished Alumni Category Inductees Card

Distinguished Alumni

Graduates who went on to achieve something notable after leaving Kelso, in any field. The accomplishment doesn't have to be tied to school at all - it's about a graduate's life reflecting well on where they came from.

2025 Hilander Hall of Fame Distinguished Service Category Inductees Card

Distinguished Service

People whose contribution to the school or district wasn't a single moment, but a sustained commitment over years. Often behind the scenes - board members, longtime volunteers, staff who kept things running.

2025 Hilander Hall of Fame Athletics Category Inductees Card

Athletics (Individual)

Athletes, coaches, and program builders who defined an era of Hilander sports. Recognizes standout performance on the field or court, but also the coaching and leadership that built programs worth remembering decades later.

2025 Hilander Hall of Fame Team Group or Collective Category Inductees Card

Team, Group, or Collective

For recognizing a team, class, or group as a single unit rather than singling out individuals. Use this when the achievement or legacy genuinely belongs to the whole group, not to any one person within it.

2025 Hilander Hall of Fame Academics Category Inductees Card

Academic (Individual)

Teachers, administrators, and academic achievers whose work in the classroom left a lasting mark on Kelso students. This includes educators who shaped curriculum and culture, as well as students whose academic accomplishments brought recognition to the district.

2025 Hilander Hall of Fame Community Hero Category Inductees Card

Community Hero

Recognizes impact that reached beyond the school gates and into Kelso itself. This is for people whose presence shaped the wider community, not just the student body - a category for legacies that don't fit neatly into a school record.

2025 Hilander Hall of Fame Community Hero Category Inductees Card

Legacy

Reserved for figures whose influence stretches across generations of Hilanders, not just their own era. This is the category for names that keep coming up long after the people who remember them firsthand are gone.

BEFORE YOU SUBMIT

Counted, Consolidated, Carried Forward

The math behind the 10% is simple. Getting there cleanly takes a bit of housekeeping first.

1

One Row, One Person

"Coach Smith" and "John Smith" get reconciled into a single entry before any percentage is calculated.

2

Counted Against the Whole Body

Consensus is measured against all Trustees and Advisors combined, not just those who've submitted so far.

3

The Pool Can Shift

As Advisors are added, the body grows - and the count needed to reach 10% grows with it.

4

Permanent Once It Clears

A name that crosses 10% doesn't need to clear it again. It carries forward into every future nomination phase.
